About Us
Our large, white building on Marshside Road, Southport, is a local landmark where, for over forty years, the Lawler family have lived and worked to serve the local community. Beginning as a grocer’s in 1983, Bob and Maria quickly expanded to offer anything a young family such as their own might need, even roping the children in for early morning, evening and weekend shifts along the way. Meat, fruit and veg were the staples, but customers found anything from bicycles to bin bags and rock albums to roller skates within the labyrinthine walls of the store.
When the power of the supermarkets made it almost impossible to keep the promise we made to ourselves that our prices would always be the lowest, we decided to turn Maria’s passion into a business, and in 2003 Crafts and Quilts was born, catering to quilters, cardmakers and stitchers of all with everything anyone might ever need to make a quilt, a cushion or a coat.
With SIX MILLION yards (that's a wild guess but it feels right) of fabric in stock (the distance from Southport to South Carolina!), there’s something for any every possible taste. We source our fabric from local suppliers and import it from Europe, the USA and Asia, offering many items not available anywhere else in the UK. And while we lost our dear Bob last year and miss him more than we can say, we hold firm to his belief that whatever you sell, it has to be the best possible quality at the lowest possible price.
